NFL injuries: Dwight Freeney, Pierre Garcon return after month off
Notable injury updates as NFL teams prepare to kick off Sunday's Week 5 action:
-- Carolina Panthers LB Jon Beason (knee), CB Chris Gamble (shoulder) and G Geoff Hangartner (knee) won't play
-- Indianapolis Colts OLB Dwight Freeney is back in the lineup for the first time since suffering an opening day ankle sprain
-- With RB Rashard Mendenhall back, Jonathan Dwyer won't dress for the Pittsburgh Steelers; however the Steelers did get former defensive MVPs James Harrison (knee) and Troy Polamalu back in the starting lineup together for the first time this season
-- RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) will have to wait at least another week to make his San Francisco 49ers debut, per USA TODAY Sports' Mike Garafolo
-- DBs Nate Clements and Leon Hall are back for the Cincinnati Bengals with Clements moving from corner to safety vs. the Miami Dolphins
-- Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (foot) is also back for the first time since Week 1 while RB Ryan Grant is active for the first time since joining his new team
-- The Green Bay Packers, who'd already ruled out WR Greg Jennings (groin), will keep RB James Starks (toe) on the bench, too
-- The Chiefs' inactives include RB Peyton Hillis, DE Glenn Dorsey and S Kendrick Lewis, whose shoulder injury has kept him out all year
-- Prior to today, Browns WRs Mohamed Massaquoi and Travis Benjamin and the Giants' Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden had already been designated as out; meanwhile Giants G Chris Snee is playing through a hip injury
