New York Jets tickets are cheaper than New York Jets parking passes

USATODAY
A fan uses a smartphone to photograph Tim Tebow of the New York Jets as he walks across the field before the game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in August.

New York Jets fans want to watch the team's Monday night game about as much as the rest of the country.

According to StubHub, more than 800 seats to Monday night's game against the Houston Texans are cheaper than the least expensive parking pass ($37) for MetLife Stadium.

All of those tickets are in the upper deck and their plummeting prices suggest they'll remain empty. Seatgeek says the average price of tickets for Monday night's game have fallen from $118 at the end of last month to $36 today. In short, it's going to be a sea of empty seats Monday night in New York. Those who are there are probably going to be more invested in booing Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and following the Yankees-Orioles score.

If you have $20, can ride public transportation and are willing to run the risk of nosebleeds, why wouldn't you go? Sure, the seats are far away, but the distance comes with the benefit of being away from both the stench of the Jets offense and Fireman Ed. If you can stomach being closer to the action, $46 gets you into the mezzanine.

What's odd about the tsunami of available tickets is that Monday could be the start of the (backup quarterback Tim) Tebow era in New York. It's the possible coronation of a new emperor of New York! Why aren't fans making the most of their opportunity to see it in person? I'm sure Romans in 800 AD didn't really want to trudge to Christmas mass in the snow, but they went on the off-chance Charlemagne might be there.
