LeSean McCoy going extra mile for aunt as she battles breast cancer

Nate Davis, USA TODAY Sports
Eagles RB LeSean McCoy is doing more for breast cancer awareness than wearing pink.

The Philadelphia Eagles are coping with some adversity. They have lost two of their past three games, coughed up the ball 14 times and are struggling to pressure opposing quarterbacks. Even the starting status of turnover-prone quarterback Michael Vick has been the subject of some debate.

But tailback LeSean McCoy realizes none of this ranks as real misfortune. After all, his aunt, Christina, is battling breast cancer.

So McCoy is doing more than wearing pink gloves and cleats this month as part of the NFL's efforts to spread awareness of the disease. He's also teamed with DICK'S Sporting Goods to further its 'Sport Your Support' campaign which is promoting breast cancer support through Facebook, providing plenty of pink gear and donations to the cause.

McCoy's aunt was diagnosed six months ago but is doing OK at present.

"Make sure you get the checkups," he says. "People take things for granted, and sometimes it's too late."

The McCoy family has rallied around Christina, whom McCoy says is upbeat.

As for the Eagles' struggles, Vick's mishaps, and Andy Reid's job security?

"Just being positive," said McCoy. "Move forward. We're a tough group, and we have their back."

Which is the same thing he tells his aunt.
