Hiroki Kuroda threw five perfect innings

Yankees starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda is perfect through five innings.

NEW YORK --There were shades of Don Larsen on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees right-hander Hiroki Kuroda had a perfect game through five innings as New York and the Detroit Tigers are scoreless in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.

But, in the top of the sixth inning, Jhonny Peralta led the inning off with single to break the no-hit bid.

Kuroda had struck out eight of the 15 batters he has faced, including seven of the first nine. Only one ball has left the infield, a fly out by Quintin Berry with one out in the first inning.

Larsen, of course, is only the pitcher ever to throw a perfect game in the postseason, doing so in the 1956 World Series for the Yankees against the Brooklyn Dodgers at the old Yankee Stadium.
