Redskins unaware of fine regarding Griffin injury

Gary Mihoces, USA TODAY Sports
A report claims that the Redskins will be fined for underplaying Robert Griffin III's concussion in Week 5.

If the Washington Redskins will be hit with a fine by the league for their reporting of Robert Griffin III's concussion in Week 5, the NFL hasn't let them know yet.

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported that the team faces a "hefty fine" for describing Griffin as "shaken up" instead of immediately announcing his head injury (later determined to be a concussion) after he was knocked out of last week's game against Atlanta. While the penalty may still be in process, the team hasn't been informed of anything just yet.

"We haven't been notified by the league at all regarding a fine," Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie told USA TODAY Sports.

One organization that was pleased with the Redskins' handling of the injury was the NFL Players Association, which called it "a textbook case for how to deal with this, with respect to the protocol."
