Tim Tebow pop pass nets first down off another fake punt
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Tim Tebow continues making an impact — as the league's most dangerous punt protector.
He caught the Indianapolis Colts special teams napping when he hit Nick Bellore for a 23-yard completion down the seam off a second-quarter pop pass, giving the New York Jets a first down off yet another fake punt.
New York faced a fourth-and-11 from the Indianapolis 40 yard line when Robert Malone dropped into punt formation with the Jets leading 14-6. But Tebow saw what he hoped for and took the snap before finding Bellore, a second-year linebacker.
To this point of the season, the league's most popular backup quarterback has been more effective in his special teams role than as a Wildcat option, converting three first downs out of punt formations.
Tebow did add a Wildcat first-down conversion on the drive that set up Mark Sanchez's 5-yard scoring pass to receiver Jason Hill for a 21-6 halftime lead.
Tebow has rushed 16 times for 66 yards with one completion for 9 yards out of the Wildcat package this season.
