Texas wind sends punt 27 yards backward into end zone (VIDEO)

Chris Chase, USA TODAY Sports
The wind was about to catch this Byron Nelson High punt.

The box score didn't say it, but one "M. Nature" deserved credit for a safety during a weekend high school football game in Texas.

Byron Nelson High was punting from its own 27-yard line when a huge gust of wind caught the football in midair and pushed it backward. The ball landed behind the spot from where it was kicked and rolled into the end zone. A Byron Nelson player recovered it to avoid a Guyer High touchdown, saving his team five points. The only problem: A safety meant Byron Nelson had to punt again into the same wind.

The next kick didn't roll back into the end zone, but that didn't stop Guyer from holding on to its lead. The Denton, Texas, school won the game 53-28.
