UMass freshman CB still on Twitter at halftime

D'Metrius Williams is a true freshman cornerback at Massachusetts, which entered today's game against Bowling Green as one of three winless teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision; Eastern Michigan and Southern Mississippi were the others.

Williams doesn't play a tremendous amount. He's a true freshman, after all. Williams made five tackles through the Minutemen's first six games, led by a season-high three stops in a 45-6 loss to Indiana.

But Williams doesn't lack confidence. Nor does he lack a smartphone, one he could use, say, during halftime of the Minutemen's game against Bowling Green.

With UMass down 7-0 after 30 minutes, Williams logged onto to his Twitter account to send out a (self-) motivational message.

@dee13williams:

"IM OUT HERE BALLIN' .. 2nd half bouta qet started time too qet mo' money"

As a freshman, Williams is at least another two full seasons away from being paid to play football.

He entered this afternoon's game as a second-string cornerback, behind another true freshman, Trey Dudley-Giles. While UMass has no rule against game-day tweeting, Williams' tweet at halftime will likely have consequences on next week's depth chart.

The moral of the story? Be happy that Twitter had yet to be invented when you were a college freshman.
