Metta World Peace eats almonds from Stanley Cup (VIDEO)

Chris Strauss, USA TODAY Sports
Metta World Peace was being his usual inquisitive self when he met the Stanley Cup Sunday.

In its 119-year history, Lord Stanley's Cup has found itself in the middle of a number of bizarre circumstances.

It's been at the bottom of Pittsburgh Penguins captain Mario Lemieux's pool, used to baptize a child and even served as a feeding trough to a 1994 Kentucky Derby winner.

While the Cup has partied "Weekend at Bernie's" style with over a century's worth of hockey's reigning champions, there are a few things the famed trophy hasn't done.

One of them is "be touched by George Washington." According to ESPN Los Angeles reporter Arash Markazi, Lakers forward Metta World Peace was quite inquisitive when he came upon the Cup - recently won by the neighboring Kings - at STAPLES Center outside the team's locker room yesterday.

"Metta World Peace asked if George Washington had ever touched the Stanely Cup. He was upset that he hadn't," Markazi tweeted.

After learning that the nation's first president hadn't come back from the grave 100 years later to caress the Cup, World Peace had a somewhat more reasonable query.

Told that no one knew if anyone had ever eaten almonds from the Cup, Artest decided he'd go for it. Thankfully, it was all caught on video.
