Pagan accidentally tips fly ball over the fence (GIF)

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, USA TODAY Sports
San Francisco Giants outfielder Angel Pagan is unable to catch a ball hit for a two-run home run by Detroit Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta in the ninth inning during Game 1.

If nothing else, Angel Pagan has a knack for timing.

With the his team carrying an 8-1 lead into the ninth inning of Game 1 on Wednesday, the San Francisco Giants center fielder lept for a deep Jhonny Peralta fly ball. But instead of coming down with the catch, Peralta deflected the ball over the fence with his glove, yielding a two-run homer to the Detroit Tigers.

But Pagan is unlikely to be the subject of talk radio Thursday. The television broadcasters barely noted the play, let alone Pagan's role in it.

That's the benefit of a seven-run pad with two outs remaining: It lets you say "oops" to moments that would be met with more colorful language in a closer game.

Thanks to @CJzero for the GIF.
