Michael Morse has jury duty and is tweeting about it

As recently as 12 days ago, Washington Nationals outfielder Michael Morse thought he might be spending this Wednesday morning preparing for Game 1 of the World Series. Then the Nats' NLDS collapse happened. Now Morse is forced to spend his day in a slightly less glamorous setting: jury duty.

Morse has been tweeting about his call to the courthouse since Tuesday night:

Tuesday, 10:45 p.m. -- Guess who has jury duty in the am ..,,

Wednesday, 9:26 a.m. -- Please don't call my number!!!! #juryduty (with attached picture)

Wednesday, 9:43 a.m. -- I got picked!!!!!!!!!

This is exactly what Twitter's creators had in mind: Big-hitting outfielders complaining about mid-week jury duty.

Morse received a number of responses from fans -- some gave advice ("tell em you know bryce"), some commiserated ("guilty of ruining your day!"), some scolded ("suck it up beast") and some congratuled ("BTW, you get paid for it, you know").

Our thoughts: Jury duty is a great civic honor and you're doing your part for your country, yada, yada, yada. If you don't want to sit on a jury, don't look too interested in the pre-trial process. It was riveting! That was my grand failing in getting on a two-day jury last year. Also, lose the hat and sunglasses; that seems like something a judge on Law & Order would have a pithy statement about.

If Morse gets placed on a jury, his 11 fellow panelists should be on the lookout for bubble gum pieces thrown in the air and shaving cream pies to the face. They also shouldn't get too comfortable thinking they're near a consensus at the end of deliberations. Morse's teams don't have a good history closing things out this month.
