Demaryius Thomas dressed as a replacement ref for Halloween

Chris Chase, USA TODAY Sports
We have one major objection and it's, uh, probably a 60-yard penalty??

Halloween is here, which means two great things:

1. I'll stop eating Sweetarts like they're a major part of each of the five food groups.

2. No more posts about athletes or celebrities dressing up in slightly-clever costumes.

But since we have a few hours until the trick-or-treaters start knocking on our door, we'll share this photo of Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas in costume as a replacement referee.

Our friends at Shutdown Corner said this makes Thomas "win Halloween," but we disagree. The only thing on Thomas' costume that identifies him as a replacement referee is the sign saying "replacement referee." Take that thing off and he could easily be Ed Hochuli.

Thomas' outfit needs dark, Stevie Wonder sunglasses or an NFL rule book that has spaghetti sauce stains on it. He needs to sell the costume. If Thomas went to a party and was talking to Alison, he should start calling her Louise. When he shakes people's hand, he should grab their elbow. He should put his beer down next to a jar of salsa and then accidentally try to drink the jar of salsa. And he should be throwing party-foul flags for double-dipping when the chip-eater only single-dipped. Demaryius has to own that costume, not just dress in it.

Thus concludes our Halloween soapbox. Have a fun night and drive safe.
