Rich Eisen needs to get off the field during NFL games (VIDEO)

Chris Chase, USA TODAY Sports

On Thursday night, NFL Network came back from commercial after the first two-minute warning and halftime show host Rich Eisen was standing on the field, about 20 yards from the Chargers and Chiefs, both of whom were ready for play and lined up in their formations. This earned Eisen a quick rebuke from the field judge.

ESPN's Stuart Scott does the same staged "oh, I'm on camera?" stand-ups during Monday Night Football and they're equally pointless. It's as if producers feel the need to justify having their hosts at the stadium, so they think of various ways to drive that point home during the broadcast. If that involves standing on the field for absolutely no reason and drawing the ire of a back judge, so be it.

It won't be long before NFLN cuts back from commercial to find Steve Mariucci braiding an umpire's hair and Deion Sanders double-dutching with Walt Anderson.
