Shonn Greene: New York Jets need to make changes

The New York Jets might be in dire straits, but most players made it clear Wednesday that they want Mark Sanchez, and not Tim Tebow, to be their starting quarterback.

Except for one prominent offensive player who is strongly against the status quo.

Few Jets players would take up for Tebow, whether on the record or anonymously sourced in Wednesday's New York Daily News report in which one teammate called the backup "terrible." But Tebow does have one key supporter: running back Shonn Greene.

"Something's got to change," Jets running back Shonn Greene told Yahoo! Sports. "When you get to the point where you're 3-6, and losing and losing, a couple of guys are like, 'Oh, what would happen [if Tebow played]?' But guys at the same time have faith in Mark, so it's kind of an up-and-down thing."

Greene then leaves no doubt about whether he endorses a change under center.

"You feel bad for Mark, but at the same time you want to win games. We're not here to protect people's feelings. If you want to win games, you've got to try something. If somebody's not getting the job done, you see if somebody else can do it. It's the same with coaching, or any position. You don't mean to belittle someone or say 'he sucks.' That's just the harsh reality."

Sanchez has the support of most of his teammates and coaches, but it's certainly odd to see another member of the Jets' backfield asking for his ouster. But it's worth noting that this is no great endorsement of Tebow. Greene sees an offense that isn't producing and just wants a fresh look, whatever and whoever that might involve.

There are no good options left for the Jets. They either roll with a quarterback who ranks 30th in passer rating or one whose teammates see fit to rip him even amid their struggles. But that's the state of Gang Green. If the offense can't show signs of progress soon, there won't be much left to salvage.
