Boston College sits soccer player after Sandusky tweets

Boston College suspended the women's soccer team's second-leading scorer after she fired off tweets about the Jerry Sandusky scandal ahead of an NCAA tournament game against Penn State.

Stephanie McCaffrey, who has since deleted her Twitter handle, posted the following tweets Thursday:

"I wonder if well get into the visitors locker room at Penn state…"

"Raping at penn state to getting raped in state penn…#beatPennState #santouchsky #legggooeags"

"Sandusky used to cart the kids around in this#handydeliverytrucks twitter.com/stephyymac/sta…"

"@patricevettori #sandusky's house tonight! @kristiemewie@kcmosun twitter.com/stephyymac/sta…"

Boston College safety Sean Sylvia shared McCaffrey's tweets on his account.

"@stephyymac is literally making me die with all her tweets#makingmyweek #beatPennState #headonaswivel #sanduskyville"

Sylvia's account also was shut down.

Boston College athletics director Brad Bates said in a statement that McCaffrey exercised very poor judgment and exhibited insensitivity on her Twitter account.

"This type of behavior is not tolerated among our student-athletes," Bates said in the statement. "Miss McCaffrey has been suspended from the team and will not participate in Friday's game."

McCaffrey has nine goals and six assists for the Eagles, who faced No. 1 Penn State on Friday in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
