Kansas is bad, but Charlie Weis did something good

Kansas football celebrates senior day on Saturday, and to ensure that the Jayhawks' upperclassmen get a proper sendoff, Charlie Weis is offering to buy tickets for KU's student body.

It's unlikely that the school draws a full crowd for Saturday's game against Iowa State, senior day or no. The Jayhawks are 1-9, though they've been competitive over the last few weeks of conference play. (KU should have won last Saturday's game against Texas Tech, you could say.)

So Weis is making it easier on KU students: He'll pay for your ticket. It's a free ticket. Just come pick it up. No surcharge. This isn't Ticketmaster. Free football.

Weis spread the word via his Twitter account, @CoachWeisKansas:

"All KU students. Not going to the game because you don't have a ticket? No problem, I'm buying! Send our seniors off the right way!"

"Go to the student entrance on the northeast side of the stadium on Saturday between 4 and 6pm with a valid student ID. I'll pick up the tab!"

"Tickets will be on a first come basis. See you at kickoff!"

I know KU is 1-9, and I know that basketball season is underway, and I realize that attention in Lawrence isn't really focused on the football team, but is there another senior class in the FBS that deserves to have a little love thrown their way on Saturday?

So it's a cool gesture from Weis. He's lost a few battles this year, like in his silly feud with KU's student newspaper, but this is a nice move.
