On Saturdays next season at Busch Stadium, the St. Louis Cardinals will be going back to the future.

St. Louis announced an alternate uniform redesign on Friday and the look is decidedly retro. Dizzy Dean retro. For the first time since 1932, the team will wear jerseys that say "St. Louis" across the front instead of "Cardinals."

The team will wear the alternate uniforms during Saturday home games.

St. Louis' famous ""Birds on Bat" logo remains, with some minor adjustments to make the objects look more realistic. An off-white color and a red yoke running down the middle of the jerseys help give the new jerseys a throwback feel.

"It's not an earth-shattering change, but any change with the Cardinals is big news because there's such tradition with our uniform look," team president Bill Dewitt III said.

It's the first redesign for the Cardinals since 1998.

The home and road jerseys were slightly altered. Both will have smaller, more proportional numbers, and the birds and bat also get the updated look.

The road jerseys will now feature a red hat and red belt, replacing the blue hat and blue belt the team had worn in recent years.

Those third uniforms drew the most attention at the unveiling ceremony.

"I think the guys on the team are going to want to wear it a lot more than on Saturdays," reliever Trevor Rosenthal said.
