Archie Goodwin posterized a smaller Lafayette player for one of college basketball's best dunks of the first week -- sort of.
The referee ruled the play -- a monstrous fast-break dunk in which Goodwin nearly leaps entirely over Lafayette's Jack Detmer - a charge, and while Goodwin didn't receive two points for his efforts we still get to marvel at them.
Jarrod Palson led the 3-on-1 break for Kentucky before dishing off to Goodwin, who had only Detmer standing in his way. Goodwin had Willie Cauley-Stein open to his left, but opted to attempted to vertically leap straight over Detmer, who planted his feet. The crowd erupted as Goodwin pulled off the dunk -- until the whistle blew.
A play like this was probably inevitable to happen to Lafayette, who had no answer for Kentucky's athleticism in the Wildcats 101-49 win. It didn't help that the young 'Cats were getting their first chance to dominate a "cupcake" team after opening the season by barely escaping Maryland and falling at the hands of Duke just days later.
Watch Goodwin posterize Detmer and almost get away with it:
