Hope Solo's aunt disputes claims about fight

USA TODAY Sports
(9) Hope Solo: The iconoclastic women’s soccer star demanded our attention.

Hope Solo's aunt disputes claims that the U.S. soccer star was fighting with her fiance on the day of their wedding and says her niece was never hit in an altercation that brought police to an early-morning house party in Kirkland, Wash.

"Hope was never hit. That's all a false rumor," Kathleen Shaw, who is the sister of Solo's mother, told the Oregonian. "And they weren't fighting over where they were going to live. Another false rumor."

Former NFL tight end Jerramy Stevens was arrested on fourth-degree domestic assault early Monday morning. A judge found no probable cause to keep Stevens and released him Tuesday.

Stevens, who has a history of run-ins with the law, told police he and Solo had been fighting about whether they would live in Florida or Washington after their marriage.

The couple, who told police they had been dating two months, were married later Tuesday on a farm north of Seattle, Shaw told the Oregonian.

"It was three hours late while Hope got Jerramy, they rushed and got their stuff and eluded the paparazzi," Shaw said.

Shaw said she met Stevens for the first time at the wedding and said he seems "nice, very polite, sweet and friendly and open, and he sings like a dream."
