Montee Ball ties FBS record for career touchdowns

Paul Myerberg, USA TODAY Sports
Wisconsin running back Montee Ball celebrates after scoring the 78th touchdown of his career, tying the FBS career record.

Montee Ball's 7-yard touchdown run during the second quarter of Wisconsin's game against Ohio State was the 78th of his storied college career, tying him with former Miami (Ohio) running back Travis Prentice for the most in Football Bowl Subdivision history.

With one more touchdown, Ball will hold the career scoring record. He'll have three more games to do so: Penn State to end the regular season, the winner of the Big Ten Legends Division in the conference championship game and the Badgers' opponent during bowl play.

Ball has carried Wisconsin's offense against Ohio State, much like he has done over his two-plus seasons as the team's starting running back. After three quarters, Ball had 25 carries for 130 yards and the one touchdown.

That's the only score Wisconsin has managed against the Buckeyes, who held a 14-7 lead heading into the game's final 15 minutes.
