Where does Alabama-Georgia rank in SEC title game history?

Was Alabama-Georgia the best game of the 2012 season? (I'd say the SEC title game would have its hands full against Friday's MAC championship game, but that's just me.)

One thing I know: We can have it both ways. Last year, SEC advocates attested to the beauty of 9-6 games – Alabama and LSU, Part I. After last year's defense-filled affair, Alabama-Georgia's points-filled conference championship game showed that the SEC isn't totally allergic to offense.

How about this: Alabama's 32-28 win over Georgia was one of the best-played games in SEC championship history. Agreed? I don't think we'll find an argument there. But where does it slot in among the game's 21-year history? Let's rank the top five.

1. 1994:Florida 24, Alabama 23. Florida's second of four SEC titles in a row wasn't sealed until it intercepted Alabama's Jay Barker with 44 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

2. 2012: Alabama 32, Georgia 28. The winner went to the BCS championship game. The loser left the BCS party altogether. Alabama eventually wore down Georgia with its running game before holding on late.

3. 1992: Alabama 28, Florida 21. The first SEC championship game was decided with about three minutes left, when Alabama cornerback Antonio Langham returned an interception 21 yards for a touchdown.

4. 1997: Tennessee 30, Auburn 29. Peyton Manning's 73-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Nash early in the fourth quarter gave the Volunteers a 30-29 lead it wouldn't relinquish.

5. 2008: Florida 31, Alabama 20. The Gators – led by quarterback Tim Tebow – wore down Nick Saban's first elite Alabama team. The Crimson Tide would get their revenge a year later.

So I'm putting Alabama-Georgia second. Agreed?
