No one is safe from Charlie Batch overthrows (GIF)

Parabolic microphone operators had no idea what was in store when Charlie Batch warmed up Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace was wide open in the end zone on a play during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens. Yeah; he was so wide open we had to use every available emphasis in our publishing tool.

The last time anyone got this wide open against the Ravens defense, the team was playing in Cleveland. Terry Bradshaw would have hit him in stride. The 64-year-old version. Heck, modern day Kordell Stewart and Bubby Brister probably would have too.

Current Steelers starter Charlie Batch didn't have as much luck. He overthrew Wallace by at least five yards.

In his defense, he did manage to find another open receiver: The parabolic microphone operator working in the back of the end zone.

The operator ducks the mic at the last second, like he was trying to catch the ball in the center. Was he protecting himself? Reacting instinctively? Trying to see how many decibels a football hitting the reflector would cause? (Please tell me this is going to be part of Sound FX this week.)

Batch appeared to overthrow himself out of his funk. The 37-year-old quarterback would go on to lead the Steelers to the upset win over their bitter rival.
