WASHINGTON – Coming off Monday's 17-16 comeback victory against the New York Giants, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III tried to bring some of his good fortune to the 1-13 Washington Wizards.
With the day off, Griffin had a courtside seat (next to the Wizards' bench) for the Washington-Miami Heat game Tuesday at Verizon Center and received some of the loudest cheers inside Verizon all season.
Griffin's magic helped for a half and then some – the Wizards led the Eastern Conference-leading Miami Heat 60-54 at halftime, a 71-59 lead early in the third quarter and an 82-78 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Even though Heat forward and NBA MVP LeBron James is a Dallas Cowboys fan, he is also a fan of Griffin. With Monday night off, James said he watched the Redskins-Giants game.
"He's an unbelievable talent, and he's a great quarterback," said James, a one-time high school football player who likes to joke that he could play tight end in the NFL. "He doesn't play like a rookie at all. They've got a great one."
As much as James likes Griffin's game, he said he's not switching allegiances.
