Rex Ryan: Mark Sanchez will start Sunday at Jacksonville

Chris Strauss, USA TODAY Sports
Mark Sanchez will get another shot as the New York Jets starting quarterback despite his benching during last Sunday's game with Arizona.

Mark Sanchez's benching was short-lived.

The embattled four-year veteran will remain the New York Jets' starting quarterback for this Sunday's game against Jacksonville, the team confirmed via Twitter Wednesday morning.

Via @nyjets:

"Updating: HC Rex Ryan has named Mark Sanchez his starting QB for Jets' SUN game at Jacksonville. He has met with the QBs this morning."

After saying Monday that he needed more time to mull over the decision, Ryan decided to stick with Sanchez despite pulling him in favor of Greg McElroy in the third quarter of Sunday's 7-6 win over Arizona after his third interception. Fans booed Sanchez heavily during the game, but Ryan will apparently give him a chance to succeed in the less hostile confines of Everbank Field.

Fans are clearly taking the news well on Twitter.

@78Grams:

"@nyjets Dumb move. Let's reward Mark's horrible play. Let's baby Mark. Jets fans deserve better at QB and better coaching choices."

@josephjets1

"Of course Sanchez is starting, we are the f&*!&* jets. When was the last time we made a decision that would benefit the team????"

@LeoraKaplan

"#RexRyan is a j-o-k-e joke joke joke! #Jets #Sanchez."

The coach is scheduled to address the move during a press conference at 11:45 a.m. EST.
