Reaction to Cowboys' Josh Brent arrest and Jerry Brown's death

Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent was arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter Saturday morning. Brent was involved in an accident that killed Cowboys practice-squad player Jerry Brown, according to Irving police.

Brent and Brown were teammates at Illinois from 2007-09.

Upon hearing the news of Brown's death, the football community expressed their sympathy and condolences on Twitter.

Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus, a teammate of Brown's in college at Illinois, tweeted:

"R.I.P to the big homie Jerry Brown sad that he's gone before his time."

Arrelious Benn, wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and teammate of Brown's at Illinois, tweeted:

"Prayers go out to the family of my former classmate, teammate Former Illini Jerry Brown RIP #illini"

Chiefs offensive lineman Jeff Allen, a college teammate of Brown, tweeted:

"I'm still in shock. I don't want to believe it R.I.P Jerry Brown"

Current Illinois football coach Tim Beckman tweeted:

"Sad news for the Illini #Family today. Jerry Brown, former Illini and current NFL player has passed away. Keep him in your prayers."

Tony Khan, Jaguars Senior VP, son of owner Shahid Khan and Illinois grad, tweeted:

"RIP Jerry Brown. Illini family hurting badly right now. Praying for Jerry and Josh. I hope this tragedy prevents future drunk driving deaths"

Colts cornerback Teddy Williams, who played with Brown in Dallas, tweeted:

"Man my heart just dropped for my ex teammate! You have to make better decisions in certain situations."

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Zach Potter tweeted:

"Terrible news coming from Dallas Cowboys family today! Thoughts and prayers to both families involved in this tragedy!"
