Chris Wilcox fined $25,000 for flipping off the Kiss Cam

Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers talks to Chris Wilcox in a game earlier this year.

Boston Celtics reserve forward Chris Wilcox was fined $25,000 for raising a middle finger while being shown on the JumboTron during the Philadelphia 76ers' Kiss Cam segment.

Crazy, right? We also couldn't believe Chris Wilcox is still in the NBA.

Wilcox flipped the angry bird during the fourth quarter of Friday night's 95-94 loss. The Sixers ran their usual Kiss Cam feature which usually ends with a shot of the opposing bench. "Players usually laugh, fake kiss or just ignore the camera," NJ.com reports.

The 30-year-old Wilcox had a different reaction. When he and teammate Jared Sullinger were shown on the JumboTron, Wilcox's finger went airborne. The gesture earned a smattering of boos from fans (not surprising, as it happened in Philadelphia) and earned Wilcox an earful from an assistant coach.

Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, announced the fine on Sunday.

Can you really blame Wilcox for the indiscretion? I know that whenever a joke is made at my expense, my first impulse is to make an obscene gesture to 17,000 people that includes young children. And he's only been in the NBA for 11 years, so it's not like he's used to being on a big stage and being held accountable for every action.

Cut him some slack, NBA!
