Vikings' Kluwe alters uniform to make political statement

It's not quite as controversial as his outspoken stand in favor of marriage equality, but Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe may get a call from the league office after his most recent political statement.

With all NFL teams wearing patches on their uniforms Sunday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Kluwe taped what appears to be a Post-It note on top of his, with "Vote Ray Guy," written in marker.

Kluwe has stated his case before for the former Raiders punter, who played for the team from 1973-1986 and was named as the position's representative on the NFL's 75th Anniversary team in 1994.

Last month, Kluwe wrote a profane yet convincing op-ed letter to Hall of Fame voters on why Guy deserved to be inducted in Canton.

"This is a player who brought the concept of hangtime to the NFL, a stat that today's special teams coaches absolutely cannot do without. This is a player who pinned opposing offenses back inside their 20-yard line instead of simply booting a touchback, winning the battle of field position before anyone realized there was even a fight. This is a player who revolutionized his corner of the sport just as much as the coaches and owners in the Hall of Fame changed theirs. And you're saying, in effect, that he's 'just a kicker'?"

Guy, who never had a punt returned for a touchdown in his entire career, has been a finalist for the Hall of Fame seven times, most recently in 2008. He discussed his frustration with the process in a recent Yahoo! Sports feature.

"They don't know, I'm pretty much in every damn Hall of Fame except this one," Guy says. "I wonder if they have a beer drinking Hall of Fame. I could be in that one, too."
