Jets' Tim Tebow active in hometown Jacksonville

Nate Davis, USA TODAY Sports
New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow warms up for a Week 14 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville, Fla.

Tim Tebow should get the chance to play in front of his hometown fans Sunday.

After missing the past two games with broken ribs, the backup quarterback is active for the New York Jets' visit to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars. If starter Mark Sanchez, who was benched midway through last week's game, struggles again, Tebow would take over because the Jets have deactivated third-stringer Greg McElroy, who played well in relief of Sanchez.

Tebow made his NFL debut in Jacksonville in 2010 as a member of the Denver Broncos and rushed twice for 2 yards. The Jaguars flirted with the idea of bringing him home in the offseason, but the Broncos eventually dealt him to the Jets after signing Peyton Manning.

However Tebow has yet to carve out a significant role with his new team, passing for 39 yards and running for 87 to date.
