Philadelphia Eagles player blocks Philadelphia Eagles punt

It wasn't quite the buttfumble, but the Philadelphia Eagles had their own self-inflicted gaffe that's a perfect metaphor for a lost season on Thursday night when Marvin McNutt blocked the punt of his teammate Mat McBriar.

McNutt was blocked into the punt by Daniel Herron of the Cincinnati Bengals. While McNutt engaged to block, Herron moved him like a ragdoll into the flight of McBriar's kick. It looked so easy that you couldn't help but think, "why don't teams do this more often?"

Disappointingly, the punt counts as a block and not a real attempt. I was unnaturally excited to see a "M. McBriar punt for -7 yards" in the NFL.com play-by-play.

By the way, if I'm special teams coordinator Bobby April, I'm watching out on Friday morning. Andy Reid has already tried to make two coaches scapegoats for this disastrous season. You don't think something like this is going unnoticed, do you? Shoot, soon Reid will be trying to fire security guards and beer vendors.
