SEC won't suspend Alabama lineman for hit on Georgia QB

Alabama defensive lineman Quinton Dial will not be suspended for the BCS National Championship Game for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray during the SEC championship game on Dec. 1, the SEC announced Friday.

Dial's standing for the Crimson Tide's game against Notre Dame on Jan. 7 appeared to be in limbo after his vicious hit on Murray after a Georgia interception late in the first half of Alabama's 32-28 win.

After throwing the interception, Murray made a brief move into the line of play before getting hit by Dial, who was coming from Murray's left. While replays show Dial connecting with Murray's helmet, no flag was thrown on the play.

"The Southeastern Conference has completed its review of video from the 2012 SEC Football Championship Game," read a statement from the conference.

"Several plays involving both teams were reviewed. After review, all subsequent action will be handled internally by the two institutions and the conference office is satisfied with their actions."

Dial, a senior, made 20 tackles (4.5 for loss) during the regular season. While he's started only one game over his two seasons at Alabama, Dial has been a vital cog in Nick Saban's line rotation since coming over from East Mississippi Community College prior to the 2011 season.
