The heartwarming pictures of Calvin Johnson celebrating record with his father

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson (81) is congratulated by his father Calvin Johnson Sr. after the game against the Atlanta Falcons at Ford Field.

It's a scene that plays out every day across the world in countless locations: A father looks upon a son with a loving gaze that's a mix of pride, admiration and an unselfish sense of a job done well.

On Saturday night, that moment happened to take place on an NFL field, in full view of the cameras.

The first thing Calvin Johnson did after catching the pass that broke Jerry Rice's 17-year-old record for most receiving yards in a single season was jog to the sideline to give the ball to his father, Calvin Sr.

"When you're in the game you're still in the moment,"Johnson said after the game. "I was in my zone, you know. I went over there – I don't think I even said anything to my dad when I gave him the ball. I just gave him a hug. When I think back on it, it was a special moment."

The father and son embraced, then met at midfield after the game to share another moment. The picture above was snapped by USA TODAY Sports photographer Tim Fuller. The one below was posted on Instagram by the Lions. Both are wonderful.

Johnson is seeking to become the first man in NFL history to finish a season with 2,000 receiving yards. He'll need 108 yards in the Lions' season finale to accomplish the feat.

Calvin Sr. was asked after the game whether Saturday was the proudest he's ever been of his son.

"It's a continuation," he said.
