Record setting day: See which NFL marks fell on Sunday

Chris Strauss, USA TODAY Sports
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten (82) breaks the single season receptions record for a tight end in the NFL.

Calvin Johnson got this record-breaking weekend off to a good start Saturday night, when he used an 11 catch, 225 yard performance to break Jerry Rice's 17-year-old mark for most receiving yards in a single season.

Yet Johnson's milestone wouldn't be the only one to draw attention in Week 16. While Minnesota's Adrian Peterson, who now stands 208 yards shy of Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record (2,105), failed to run for over 100 yards for the first time since Week 6, there were plenty of other players who marked their name in the NFL record books Sunday.

Andrew Luck
Most single-season passing yards by a rookie
Cam Newton's record barely lasted a year as Luck's 205 yard performance gives him 4,183 on the season, 132 more than the Carolina quarterback threw for last season.

Jason Witten
Most receptions by a tight-end in a single season.
The Dallas Cowboys tight end made his 103rd catch of the season during overtime against the Saints, breaking Tony Gonzalez's mark from 2004.

Jamaal Charles
All-time leading running back in career yards per carry
Charles needed two carries to achieve the minimum career number to be counted in the NFL's records. He ended up getting 22 against Indianapolis, which he used to run for 226 yards, including an 86-yard touchdown. He's now averaging 5.7 yards per carry in his career.

Kai Forbath
Most consecutive field goals to start a career
The Washington Redskins rookie kicker has been perfect since joining the team as a free agent in Week 6. Forbath has made 17 of 17 field goals for the Redskins.
