Joey Porter arrested for allegedly writing bad check

Chris Strauss, USA TODAY Sports
Former NFL linebacker Joey Porter will likely spend Christmas in a California jail due to a felony warrant related to a check with insufficient funds.

As one of the most loquacious and feared linebackers in the NFL, Joey Porter's mouth rarely wrote a check his body couldn't cash.

According to a report in the Bakersfield Californian, the former All-Pro allegedly can't say the same for his actual banking account.

Via Bakersfield Californian:

Former NFL star Joey Porter was arrested Friday night in Bakersfield on a felony warrant out of Clark County, Nev., for writing a check with non-sufficient funds. Lt. Scott Tunnicliffe of the Bakersfield Police Department said Porter, who retired from pro football after last season, was pulled over on a traffic stop at 9:46 p.m. Friday at the corner of Etchert and Calloway in west Bakersfield. The Kern County Sheriff's website showed that Porter was still in custody as of Sunday night. A message left by The Californian with the Clark County Sheriff's department Sunday was not returned.

Porter officially retired as a Steeler in July after spending the past two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. Porter, who made over $30 million in his 13-year NFL career, is not expected to be released until Wednesday, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Department's website.
