Darren Collison sinks wild buzzer-beater for Dallas Mavericks

Adi Joseph, USA TODAY Sports
Collison drains an improbable three at the buzzer.

That's one way to tie a game.

The Dallas Mavericks had 2.2 seconds to score three points against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Then Shawn Marion botched an inbound pass to Vince Carter. Then Marion picked up the loose ball and dribbled inside the arc.

Then ... Darren Collison.

The Mavericks point guard launched an off-balance three-pointer off one foot that barely beat the buzzer and at first seemed too unlikely to be true. That tied the game 98 to send it to overtime, where the Thunder went on to win 111-105.

Shot of the year? We think so.

The basket gave Collison 30 points and Marion, who probably should have had the sense to try his own three-pointer, his seventh assist.

Three of the best Twitter reactions:

  • ESPN's Tom Haberstroh: "Almost as nutty as Collison's shot? The no-look touch pass by Vince."
  • CBS Sports' Doug Gottlieb: "Craziest shot ive seen in a long time #Mavs force OT on Collison three"
  • Daily Thunder's Royce Young, at the end of overtime: "Phew, I thought Darren Collison was going to hit a six-pointer."
