Hotel to open outdoor ice rink in sunny LA for the holidays

USATODAY
The iconic Hyatt Regency Century Plaza hotel in Los Angeles will open an outdoor skating rink on Nov. 15 for the holiday season.

A new hotel this winter's embracing the idea of adding a holiday-time ice skating rink.

The Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles will launch its rink Nov. 15 with live music, free hot chocolate and tastes of the hotel's signature bread pudding.

Expect a 3,000-square-foot rink in the hotel's backyard. It's an eco-friendly model, too, the hotel says.

Guests can put on a pair of skates for free.

Everyone else can expect to pay $10 per hour or $20 for a full day pass.

The fee includes skate rentals, though you can bring your own if you want. No need to make reservations.

Hours? The rink will be open until just after New Year's Day — Jan. 3, 2013. It will be open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The hotel will donate 30% of rink sales to the local chapter of Make-a-Wish Foundation between Nov. 15 and Nov. 25.

We'll keep you posted as other hotels announce temporary ice skating rinks.
