Black Friday, Cyber Monday travel deals run the gamut

Updated with new Cyber Monday deals on Monday, Nov. 26: The travel industry wants a bigger piece of your wallets on Black Friday, Nov. 23, the biggest shopping day of the year, and Cyber Monday, Nov. 26.

This year, companies from Orbitz to Club Med to Starwood Hotels are putting rooms on sale. Starwood, for instance, has kicked off its sale on more than 500 hotels.

Individual hotels in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York are also kicking off sales.

So whether you're buying yourself a much-deserved getaway, or surprising your spouse, parents or kids with a vacation, get your credit card ready.

But remember, even as these deals proliferate, most Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals require fast action and plenty of terms and conditions, including required travel dates, two- or three-night minimums in some cases, and booking at specific times. You wouldn't want to lose out because you're hopping online at 12:01 when the sale stopped at midnight.

Hotels don't want to be left without visibility on the biggest shopping day of the year, and this year "everybody's doing it," says Tom Botts of Hudson Crossing. "They don't want to lose market share."

Are the deals really good? Yes and no, Botts says.

"Prices in the hotel industry move all the time, so, yes, this is a good opportunity to buy and there will be some good prices, but it doesn't mean you'll never see them again," he says.

Online agencies

Expedia - Expedia's Black Friday sale will be held on its daily deals engine - http://www.expedia.com/p/multi-deal/vacation-ideas-asap.htm. Expect to find at least two different hotel deals in a variety of markets each day through Nov. 26.

Orbitz - Orbitz has launched its holiday promo. If you enter the code "CYBERORBITZ," you'll get 15% off your stay at qualifying hotels. You must book by Nov. 26. The deal's good for stays through (updated) Jan. 5, 2013, so you can use this for a New Year's Eve getaway. More details at orbitz.com/sales.

High-end hotel chains

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide isn't waiting until Black Friday. It's launching its holiday-period sale today. Travelers can get up to 25% off regular room rates at more than 500 Starwood hotels and resorts for stays between Wednesday and March 31, 2013.

Deals include $160 per night rates at the Westin Verasa Napa; $309 a night at The Phoenician, A Luxury Collection Resort, in Scottsdale, Ariz.; $269 a night at W New York Downtown; $149 a night at the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay; and $235 a night at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale.

Loews Hotels & Resorts is throwing a Cyber Monday sale that will run from 12:01 a.m. ET to 3:00 a.m. the next day (Tuesday, Nov. 27). You must travel between Nov. 26 and April 30, 2013. Shoppers can expect up to 40% off best available rates at Loews' 15 hotels and free Wi-Fi. See terms and conditions on the company's website. You can book online at loewshotels.com or call 1-855-74-LOEWS. The offer is not available at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort or Hard Rock Hotel Orlando.

Montage Hotels & Resorts is holding a Cyber Monday sale for its two luxury hotels in California - the oceanfront Montage Laguna Beach resort, and the Montage Beverly Hills in the heart of Beverly Hills' shopping district. The sale begins at midnight ET and lasts until 11:59 p.m. ET. Book online at www.montagehotels.com/cybermonday. You'll get 40% off reservations for stays from Dec. 1-20, 2012, along with a complimentary bottle of champagne upon arrival.

Budget chain

Howard Johnson is holding its holiday sale on Nov. 28, by declaring it Orange Wednesday in honor of its logo color. You can get up to 50% off rates if you book a stay of up to three consecutive nights. The 50 Howard Johnson hotels in the USA and Canada that are participating can be found on hojo.com before Orange Wednesday. To get the discounted rate, you must call the hotel directly on that day and request the Orange Wednesday rate. Stays must be completed within three months of the reservation being made.

California

The landmark Claremont Hotel, Club & Spa perched in the hills of Berkeley is giving guests up to 40% off best available rates for its Cyber Monday deal. You must book the Claremont's deal only on Nov. 26, but what it lacks in flexibility for booking, it makes up for in travel possibilities. You can book for travel through March 31, 2013, which includes spring break. Use promo code CYBER on Claremont-Hotel.com. Expect old world charm, a 20,000-square-foot spa and a great location for exploring the San Francisco Bay Area.

Los Angeles - The Four Points by Sheraton Los Angeles International Airport hotel says its Cyber Monday package can save customers 50% with rates starting at $89 a night. The rate includes free parking and one draft beer per person per night at the hotel's bar. This offer is available to book Nov. 26-29 only for stays Nov. 26, 2012-March 31, 2013 when using promo code CYBERMON at fourpointslax.com.

Illinois

On Cyber Monday, the Chicago hotel MileNorth is offering travelers who book rooms free parking. Rates start at $159. The Cyber Monday deal's available for travel through March 31, 2013. (If you are among the first 25 who booked, you also received a $50 gift card good for any of Chicago's Mario Tricoci Salon & Day Spas, but the offer started at midnight.) Indiana

On Black Friday, you can book a room at the luxury Conrad Indianapolis hotel for $129, down from what's normally $229 to $279. Book your stay online using the promo code "FRY". The hotel is extending the sale one day to Saturday. For details, see the hotel's promo site.

Louisiana

A group of seven New Orleans hotels is holding a Cyber Monday sale with up to 40% off available rates good for 24 hours only on Monday, Nov. 26. The New Orleans Hotel Collection says to expect rates "that are far lower than any other online rates, and lower than what is usually available." Three of the hotels are rated as among the most popular on TripAdvisor, and all don't charge extra for Wi-Fi or filtered bottled water in rooms. The hotels — located in popular areas such as the French Quarter and the Arts District — are the Bourbon Orleans, Dauphine Orleans, Hotel Mazarin, Wyndham Riverfront, Audubon Cottages, Crowne Plaza New Orleans Airport and Hotel Le Marais. Massachusetts

The luxury Boston Harbor Hotel, located on the waterfront, will keep its holiday discount going continuously, so you don't have to worry about start and stop times. The deal rates will be available from 12:01 a.m. on Black Friday all the way through midnight on Cyber Monday. The hotel's fitness center and spa has a 60-foot lap pool.

Nevada

Las Vegas - The Cosmopolitan on the Las Vegas Strip will hold a fluctuating sale on Cyber Monday. You'll find it on the hotel's special promo website: www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/cybermonday. The deals will change every two hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. PT, so you can keep refreshing - and try your luck. The website will go live today (Wednesday, Nov. 21) so you can get a preview of the deals to come. The Cosmopolitan's Facebook and Twitter accounts will also provide hints.

Pennsylvania

Philadelphia - Kimpton's two Philadelphia properties, the Hotel Palomar and the just-opened Hotel Monaco on Independence Mall, have a "Visit Philly Cyber Monday Offer" for social media fans of the city's tourism arm, Visit Philly. You must book between 8 a.m. to midnight on Cyber Monday. Rates at both hotels will change every hour on the hour, and can drop as low as $99; the most you'll pay will be $229. You can book travel for stays through March 31, 2013. Club Med - Around the world

In what is perhaps the most confusing Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale for 2012, Club Med will put 10 worldwide properties on sale on Black Friday but Club Med hasn't yet decided which ones. The company asked fans to go on its Facebook page and vote for the property they'd like to see go on sale; voting ended Nov. 16. The 10 most popular properties will be offered on Black Friday at "deeply discounted" prices. Club Med's Black Friday sale lasts Nov. 23 to 25 and the Cyber Monday sale lasts Nov. 26 to 28. Club Med has locations such as Bali, Indonesia; Columbus Isle, Bahamas, and Cancun Yucatan, Mexico.

New York

Manhattan - The Benjamin hotel is putting its rooms on sale for as little as $199, which it says could be up to 60% off during the height of the season. To try to get the best rates, count on booking the Cyber Monday sale at midnight ET Nov. 26 on the hotel's website; you must book by 11:59 p.m. ET on the same day. The special rates are good for stays through Feb. 28, 2013. The cheapest rates are for non-refundable bookings; if that's not appealing to you, you can book refundable rates starting at $229 for a basic guest room. The hotel's deluxe room category —— a one-bedroom terrace suite — will go for $379 or $409 a night, depending on whether you book a non-refundable or refundable reservation.

Manhattan - The Roosevelt Hotel NYC on Madison Avenue in Midtown is offering 25% best available rates — and free Wi-Fi — for guests who book between 9 a.m. ET Nov. 26 and 9 a.m. ET Nov. 27. The discount applies to stays from Jan. 3, 2013 and March 31, 2012 specifically in the room categories of "cozy," "superior" or "deluxe." Enter rate code CY25. The hotel also is launching a two-hour sale Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. ET to noon that offers 50% off best available rates and free Wi-Fi. Enter rate code CY50.

Manhattan - Want to stay on tony Central Park South? On Cyber Monday only, the Helmsley Park Lane hotel is offering 40% off the best available rate for stays between Dec. 1 and Sept. 30, 2013. Book the special rate on the hotel's website - www.summithotels.com/HelmsleyParkLane.

Long Island City - The Z NYC Hotel, with views of the Manhattan skyline, will hold a a flash sale on Cyber Monday. Florida

Orlando - Orlando's upscale Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek is offering travelers the Cyber Monday chance to save 35% if you book three or more nights. Rates start at $139 a night. The resort, located in Bonnet Creek, is taking bookings at www.wyndhamgrandorlando.com. Be sure to use the code "DISCYB." The deal's good for travel from Nov. 26 to Jan. 31.

Statewide sale - Boutique operator Kimpton is putting its three Florida hotels on sale for Cyber Monday. Kimpton runs the laid-back Vero Beach Hotel & Spa in Vero Beach; the Surfcomber Miami in South Beach, and the Epic Hotel in downtown Miami. With the Cyber Monday sale, you'll get up to 30% off your stay, (plus upgrades available for $26 if you're staying on Nov. 26.) Rates start at $249. How to book Cyber Monday rates varies. Don't forget that there are plenty of terms and conditions - such as you can't combine this deal with any other discounts - and that the hotel charges a daily resort fee of about $20, which covers items such as your daily newspaper, gym access, beach chairs and Wi-Fi.

Virginia

Williamsburg - If you're interested in booking a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, you should know about the destination's Cyber Monday promotion. Colonial Williamsburg is offering exclusive deals on hotel night stays and annual admission passes. For the first time ever, guests who book one or more nights in a suite at select Colonial Williamsburg Hotel properties will get one night free. The offer is valid on bookings made for travel between November 23, 2012 and March 21, 2013. To book, travelers have to call 1-800-447-8679 and use the code CYBER.

Mexico

Hacienda San Angel, a boutique hotel located above the cobblestone streets of Puerto Vallarta, is offering 40%. Expect turn-of-the-century furnishings, Mexican Colonial architecture and three pools. The Hard Rock Cancun's Black Friday deal gives customers 20% off rates, plus a $1,500 resort credit when you book three or more nights. You can use the resort credit for perks such as room upgrades, spa, tours or golf. The deal is good for travel through Dec. 23, 2013.

Hard Rock Vallarta's Black Friday special gives customers a bit more off than the Cancun property, 30%, plus a $1,500 resort credit if you book three nights or more.

Panama

At Westin Playa Bonita, use code CYBERMON to buy two nights and get two nights free, in addition to an upgrade to the next room category. Count on savings of about 50%. Rates start at $250 a night. The deal's good for travel from Dec. 1-20, and from July 1-Aug. 15, 2013. Book on the hotel's website.

St. Lucia

For the first time, the Saint Lucia Tourist Board is offering a Black Friday and Cyber Monday deal. Travelers can get an island-wide discount of 20% off most hotels or resorts when booked on its official websites, www.bookstlucianow.com or www.stlucianow.com. You'll have 34 participating hotels from which to choose; rates start $110 a night. You can book a trip for travel through Dec. 15, 2013 (updated) beginning on the morning of Black Friday until midnight on Cyber Monday. Examples: Bay Gardens Hotel has rates starting at $110; Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa has all-inclusive rates starting at $194 for a Harmony Deluxe Garden View, and Rendezvous has all-inclusive rates starting at $760 for a Premium Garden View Room.
