NYCC: LEGO builds buzz with superhero, TMNT toys

USATODAY
A new LEGO set inspired by "The Dark Knight Rises" is one of several new toys from the company arriving in January.

LEGO is making its first appearance at New York Comic Con one for all the ages.

Conventioneers big and small will get to see a couple new superhero building sets from the toy company firsthand at the Javits Center in New York City on Saturday.

One is very connected to New York itself: The Marvel Super Heroes line's "Spider-Man: Daily Bugle Showdown" features the offices of the Daily Bugle — a staple in the Manhattan of Amazing Spider-Man comics — as well as minifigures of Spidey, Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson, hero Nova and supervillains Beetle and Doctor Doom.

With the other, fans can relive the summer Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises. 'The Bat vs. Bane" from the DC Universe Super Heroes theme stars a camouflaged Tumbler vehicle and The Bat aircraft plus figures of Batman, the masked villain Bane and Commissioner Gordon.

Both of the new sets will be out in January along with a "Batman: Arkham Asylum Breakout" set featuring the iconic supervillain prison and a slew of bad guys such as the Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy and Scarecrow.

LEGO also made a big splash Thursday with its announcement of a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line based on the new Nickelodeon animated series. 'The Shellraiser Street Chase," the first set to be released in January, stars turtle heroes Michelangelo and Donatello plus Dogpound, a Foot Soldier, The Kraang and a pizza truck.
