'The Last Mile' by David Baldacci

1. The Last Mile by David Baldacci (Grand Central, fiction, on sale April 19)

What it’s about: Amos Decker looks into a case with similarities to his own life, when a convicted killer on Death Row gets a reprieve after another man confesses to the crime.

The buzz: The first Decker thriller, Memory Man, landed at No. 1 on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list last April.

2. Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld (Random House, fiction, on sale April 19)

What it’s about: In this 21st century version of Pride & Prejudice, Liz Bennet is a magazine writer, Mr. Darcy is a neurosurgeon and the setting is Cincinnati.

The buzz: Sittenfeld (Prep, An American Wife) is the latest contemporary author tapped by The Austen Project to bring a modern perspective to Jane Austen’s beloved classics.

3. War Hawk by James Rollins and Grant Blackwood (William Morrow, fiction, on sale April 19)

What it’s about: Tucker Wayne, joined by his military dog Kane, investigates a murder with links to World War II and Enigma code breaker Alan Turing.

The buzz: This is the second mystery featuring Tucker and Kane; the first, The Kill Switch, was a USA TODAY best seller in 2014.

4. Only in Naples by Katherine Wilson (Random House, non-fiction, on sale April 19)

What it’s about: Debut memoir by an American who moved to Naples only to fall in love with a local man, his family, and Neapolitan cuisine.

The buzz: “Warmhearted… an exuberant account of love and great Italian food,” says Kirkus Reviews.

5. Before We Visit the Goddess by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni (Simon & Schuster, fiction, on sale April 19)

What it’s about: The story of three generations of mothers and daughters, set in India and Houston, Texas; from the author of The Mistress of Spices.

The buzz: “Gracefully insightful, dazzlingly descriptive,” says Booklist.
