What's Trent Harmon's post-'American Idol' wish? Frosted Flakes are involved.
LOS ANGELES – Moments after being named the final champion of American Idol, Trent Harmon, 25, was just starting to decompress.
For his first post-Idol wish, the 25-year-old from Mississippi was looking for simple things.
Give him cereal and some quiet
"I'm going to pour a big bowl of Frosted Flakes. I'm going to sit down in my bed. I'm not going to turn the TV on and I’m going to sit there in peace and quiet," he told USA TODAY backstage moments after his victory.
Beyond that, he's not taking a break.
"I acknowledge that all that happened tonight is that it got me to the bottom of the next level up," Harmon said. "I’m good with that. I’m ready to go to work."
He's also on board with Idol mentor Scott Borchetta's plan for his first album.
"Mr. Scott said, 'Trent, I think it would be a wise move for us to make a country album of sorts, a country album that is palatable to a lot of different people, because you can sing a lot of different things,' " Harmon said.
Borchetta, a top recording executive, discussed album plans for Harmon and runner-up and fellow Mississippian La'Porsha Renae, who also is signing a record deal with his company.
Idol king's album plans
Borchetta told reporters after the show that they had been laying the groundwork for Harmon's album with recent performances, including Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man, a soul-country version of Sharp Dressed Man, Chris Stapleton's Tennessee Whiskey and Justin Timberlake's Drink You Away.
"We've been trying to warm you up for that. That’s the record were going to make," he said. "We're going to make, for lack of a better term, a Justin Timberlake country record."
Queen La'Porsha
He said Renae's record "writes itself."
"It's Queen La'Porsha, as far as I'm concerned," Borchetta said. "We're going to make a killer diva-soul-R&B-pop record. There's another gear that she has that we haven't recorded yet. Watch out."
Borchetta also explained why he thought Harmon won, even though La'Porsha has many fans and had long been a favorite.
"It’s a momentum game and La'Porsha was always the one to beat, just like (runner-up Clark Beckham) was last year," he said. "I don’t think it takes anything away from La'Porsha, but Trent had momentum. I've been talking about that for the last five, six weeks, like, 'I watched this guy. He’s a dark horse and each week he’s getting better.' "
