TORONTO -- In one of the many jabs taken at Hollywood's warped logic in Seven Psychopaths, a character observes, "You can't let the animals die in a movie ... only the women."

And yes, most of the females in the cast do meet a nasty fate. One who doesn't, however, is the film's so-called "fur fatale" -- Bonny, a sweet 2-year-old Shih Tzu, who might be this year's answer to Uggie, the top dog in TheArtist. Except that, like most lapdogs, Bonny mostly lies about and passively observes as her human co-stars engage in despicable acts that usually draw blood.

While Bonny had the pick of the litter when it comes to engaging male actors to snuggle up to, she and Christopher Walken especially bonded.

"The dog is like an angel," he says. At the recent Toronto International Film Festival, where she walked the red carpet, "it was hot with these flashbulbs going off. There was this huge guy standing next to me yelling, 'Let me pick her up.' And I'm protecting the dog, thinking, 'If you touch that dog, I will crack you right in the face.' "

Walken gives his lady love's acting high marks as well. "They would say 'action,' and she just stayed."

He says he could tell right away that Bonny took a fancy to him. "The way she looked at me."

His co-stars Colin Farrell and Sam Rockwell, as well as filmmaker Martin McDonagh, confirmed that the two shared a special connection.

Suddenly, Walken looks concerned: "I wonder what will happen to Bonny now?''

Says McDonagh: "She has her own Facebook page."

Walken: "I wonder if she will change?"

Rockwell: "She's changed since the junket."

McDonagh: "She doesn't talk to us anymore."

Rockwell: "You've changed, Chris."

Walken: "I'll never change."
