The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has asked certain membership branches to fill out an "industry involvement form," part of the vetting process to ensure members are still active in the film community.

On Monday, the  Academy Membership & Awards Department sent an email requesting that members of the public relations and members-at-large branches log-in to the Academy's website and fill out the industry involvement form by May 6.

The Academy provided USA TODAY a copy of the email which was first printed in the industry website The Hollywood Reporter.

The Academy request for resume updating was limited to members of the two branches because they "do not typically receive traditional on-screen film credits," according to the email. These credits are key to determining activity in the film industry.

"We want to make sure that our members receive full credit for all of their achievements in motion pictures," the email states. "Please feel free to use this form to note your participation on specific film projects as well. For example, if you did not receive legal billing on a film, you can use the form to describe your role from a creative, financial, executive, or consulting standpoint."

Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced sweeping changes to the membership in January following criticism in the wake of #OscarsSoWhite, an all-white slate of best actor and actress Oscar nominations for the second year in a row.

The changes include a goal to double the number of women and diverse Academy members by 2020 and ensuring that existing members have been active in the filmmaking community within the decade.

An Oscar statue is displayed at the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

With the Academy's review of its members' eligibility to vote, each of the group's 17 branches is reviewing the work records of its own members, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Members will be informed of their voting status by the end of July.

Here's a full copy of Monday's email:

We want to make sure that our members receive full credit for all of their achievements in motion pictures. But we need your help! As you know, Public Relations and Members-at-Large members do not typically receive traditional on-screen film credits.  We have created a special online form so you can enter information about the motion picture companies and organizations you have worked for throughout the years.  Please feel free to use this form to note your participation on specific film projects as well. For example, if you did not receive legal billing on a film, you can use the form to describe your role from a creative, financial, executive, or consulting standpoint.

As you fill out each position, click on "Add More" to continue to add to your history.  Once you’ve successfully completed the form, click on "Submit to My Update My Profile."  We ask that you try to complete this form by May 6.

Thank you,

Academy Membership & Awards Department
