Owl City heads to Hollywood with 'Wreck-It Ralph'

For a guy who started making music in his parents' basement as a pastime, becoming a successful musician was beyond expectation. "I didn't plan on a career in music, but it was something that I've always dreamed of, so my situation is the best-case scenario," says Adam Young, aka Owl City.

On Tuesday, he takes his next musical venture: the movie soundtrack. His upbeat contribution, When Can I See You Again?, to the animated Disney film Wreck-It Ralph (out Nov. 2) is the end credit song. USA TODAY gets a behind-the-scenes look at the music video.

The film, about a bad guy in a video game who wants to be a hero, features the voices of John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch.

Film composer Henry Jackman, known for his work on X-Men: First Class, scores the 16-song soundtrack, while Grammy winner and dubstep prince Skrillex penned Bug Hunt and Rihanna's catchy tune Shut Up and Drive gets a tuneup.

"This project has been taking up a lot of my time and I've been traveling around the world," says Young. "Music has been an all-consuming roller coaster ride. But in a healthy way."
