Playlist: The Revivalists share their eclectic favorite songs

The Revivalists
Special for USA TODAY
The many faces of the Revivalists.

After breaking through last year with their platinum hit "Wish I Knew You," The Revivalists have kept the momentum going with another successful single "All My Friends," ahead of their new album "Take Good Care" out Nov 9.

To celebrate their album release Friday, the members of The Revivalists -- lead singer/guitarist David Shaw, guitarists Zack Feinberg and Ed Williams, drummer Andrew Campanelli, bassist George Gekas, saxophonist Rob Ingraham and percussionist PJ Howard -- collaborated on a playlist for USA TODAY.

Waldscenen. 9 Clavierstücke, Op.82: 7. Vogelals Prophet
The dreamlike quality of this particular composition always takes me to that proper place in my mind - the intersection where hope and wonder collide. -- Shaw

Erroll Garner - "Long Ago and Far Away"
There’s a story in this melody, although I haven’t quite figured it out yet. I think that’s why I like it so much. -- Shaw

Louis Cole - "Phone"
Louis Cole’s latest album is a musical and visual DIY triumph. The music videos and songs are so outstanding: honest, funny and uniquely creative. -- Feinberg

Leonard Cohen - "Going Home"
Such a beautiful transcendent song. I read the lyrics as the old man approaching the end of life, getting ready to leave the earthly burden of body, ego and identity. “Going home without my burden, going home behind the curtain, going home without the costume that I wore.” -- Feinberg

Mac Miller - "Small Worlds"
Can’t get enough of this song. The beat feels like sitting on a cloud in a dream and the lyrics are directly self-aware and remain hopeful in the face of life’s darkness. -- Campanelli

Rayland Baxter - "Strange American Dream"
This song plays on repeat in my head. Artfully built from a fat rhythm section groove to a symphony of layers that reach back to another era of rock music while maintaining a distinctly modern sound. -- Campanelli

Sir Sly - "High"
This track has vibe for days. It makes me want to put the windows down and drive fast. -- Gekas

Jorja Smith - "Lost And Found"
Everything about this song is perfect. The lyrics, vocals, chord changes, arrangement, minimalist production. It’s all there. -- Gekas

Billy Preston - "Nothing From Nothing"
Jackie Wilson - "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher"
These are my one-year-old’s new jams so I’ll listen to them every day multiple times a day and I can never get sick of these songs. Got to raise him right. -- Williams

Alicia Keys - "No One"
I could talk about the beat, the melody, that cool arpeggiated synth line, an amazing vocal performance from Ms. Keys, and all sorts of other stuff, but really it all comes down to this:  Every once in a while you just need a song like this one. -- Ingraham

Muse - "Knights of Cydonia"
They closed their set with this at Bonnaroo so it's been stuck in my head for four months now. The build/payoff in this song is incredible.  I listen to it and I feel like I'm riding across the ocean on a flaming horse. I feel like I could punch the moon in half. -- Ingraham

Brandon Heath - "Wait and See"
James Brown - "Funky Drummer"
These two tunes propelled me through an uncomfortable season in my life. "Wait and See" speaks of hope, encouraging listeners to stay focused on the journey ahead. I'd channel that positive energy right to my drum kit embodying Clyde Stubblefield, the "Funky Drummer." -- Howard
