Avicii's family opens up about his death, plans posthumous album 'Tim'

Nearly a year after his death on April 20, 2018, the album that Swedish electronic music producer Avicii had been working on before his passing is finally being released, his family told The New York Times.

Titled "Tim," after his real name, Tim Bergling, the album will come out in June, with its first single, “S.O.S.,” arriving on April 10. The album, which was 75% to 80% finished at the time Avicii’s died, is not a bunch of "musical leftovers," the story stressed. It will feature vocals from Chris Martin of Coldplay and Aloe Blacc, the latter of whom sang on Avicii's hit “Wake Me Up."

Avicii was found dead at 28 during a vacation in Muscat. While declining to go into detail, the Bergling family acknowledged it was a suicide in the Times article. 

Last month, his family announced the creation of the Tim Bergling Foundation, which will focus on supporting people and organizations in the field of mental illness and suicide prevention. and will also be active on issues involving climate change, nature conservation and endangered species.

“It’s not even a year since it happened,” Klas Bergling, Avicii's father, told the Times, explaining that while his new music "should be released," his loved ones are still recovering from his death. “The family is very traumatized. We want peace.”
