'Dancing With the Stars' sends high-scoring celeb home

Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel perform on Monday's 'DWTS.'

"Tonight's elimination could be the most surprising of the season so far," warned host Tom Bergeron, as he kicked off Tuesday's Dancing With the Stars results show.

We've heard that before.

Sabrina Bryan was at the top of the leaderboard after Monday's hoedown. Kelly Monaco was at the bottom.

So what happened?

First we were treated to an encore of Apolo Anton Ohno's Viennese waltz with partner Karina Smirnoff. It was one of the dances from Monday night's show that didn't involve cowboy boots or cows. But the sweeping, sweet dance earned the Olympic star perfect 10s across the board.

And then some results: Emmitt Smith was deemed safe. And so was Kelly Monaco! The lowest scorers of Monday night advanced to dance again. "Of course we thought we might be going home," Kelly told host Brooke Burke-Charvet. "I had already packed my bags," added Val.

Note: Host Tom Bergeron announced that next week was supposed to be an instant elimination on Monday night because Tuesday's presidential election was bumping the results show. "We had intended" to do that, he said, but the show has now decided not to send anyone home next week.

Jason Mraz performed I Won't Give Up as Mark Ballas danced with Chelsie Hightower.

Derek Hough announced he injured himself Monday night. There's "something wrong with my vertebrae and my neck." He said he has had the ailment before, but as a precaution, "I'm going to have to step out a little bit" next week and have Ballas step in. "I feel extremely terrible." Said his partner Shawn Johnson, "I just want him to get better."

Shawn was deemed safe to dance next week.

Gilles Marini was also deemed safe.

Kirstie Alley plugged her ears when it came to hearing her fate, assuming it wouldn't be good news. "You're safe!" said Brooke, much to Kirstie's surprise, along with everyone else's.

After Taylor Swift, sporting high-waisted black shorts and a red bow tie, sang her hit We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, we got down to the final elimination.

The top three highest-scoring couples were left: Sabrina Bryan, Melissa Rycroft and Apolo Anton Ohno. Melissa was deemed safe.

It came down to Sabrina and Apolo.

Sent packing: Sabrina Bryan. The crowd booed. "This was my second chance, and last night was one of the most beautiful nights I've ever had," she said, her head hanging. She thanked partner Louis Van Amstel and the show.
