  • Talks about playing an icon
  • Says it's "safer" for her to be on set
  • She's trying to "learn" from her "mistakes"

Lindsay Lohan said no to ABC's Barbara Walters (pulling out of a planned interview), but she said yes to ABC's Good Morning America.

The star appeared this morning, live, in an interview with Amy Robach to talk about Lifetime movie Liz & Dick, airing Nov. 25. Early reviews are good, Robach told her.

"It's always nerve-wracking to play someone that's such an incredible force. ... I was kind of nervous to see what people would think of it."

Robach said, "Liz Taylor's life was out of control at times. And to be honest, so has yours. From the moment you step out of your house there's oftentimes drama. Do you think that your life and career may have been different - would have been different - without the constant scrutiny?"

Lilo, said, "Um, obviously yes, to a certain extent. But I think that everyone goes through things in life. I like to learn from my mistakes. But I wouldn't be who I am today if I hadn't gone through certain things. And everything happens for a reason, good or bad. So you can just, you know, take what you've learned from it and move forward."

She asked who helps her stay grounded. "Elizabeth Taylor actually went to her mother a lot," said Lohan. "I'm pretty much the same. My mom and my siblings."

Robach told Lohan that news came out "today that you allegedly have a half sister" referring to dad Michael Lohan's DNA test revealing that, yes, he is the father of a Montana teen, born while he was married to ex-wife Dina in the mid-90s.

Lohan quickly said, "I didn't even hear that, so thanks for the news. I don't pay attention to any of it."

Asked how her your family handles it, she said, "I don't really want to get into that," said Lohan. "I want to stay on the positive side of things."

She said acting is her focus right now. "I keep calling my agents saying, 'Keep me on set!' Safer that way."

As for where she "is right now," Lohan replied, "I'm in a great place. I just want to move forward. Keep working. I'm in the process of kind of moving and spend time with my family and just be happy."
