Royals pose for selfies on Down Under tour

Presidents and prime ministers have done it, so why not the young royals?

Prince William and Duchess Kate posed in fans' selfies during a walkabout in Sydney on Wednesday.

It isn't the first time someone with a smartphone and a selfie obsession has enlisted a royal. It isn't even the first time it's happened on the young royals' Down Under tour.

Clearly, posing for the occasional selfie is becoming another public duty for royals (but probably not for the Queen), along the lines of the grip-and-grin, unveiling of plaques and planting of trees.

The Daily Mail, the Telegraph and Hello magazine had the pictures of the Down Under selfies, which also appeared on Twitter.

William, Kate and Prince George arrived in Sydney Wednesday afternoon and immediately went to the Sydney Opera House for a reception and a walk in front of the iconic building. A large crowd had gathered, as usual, and they headed for the rope line to greet their fans.

One of them was Nina Kiwarkis, 52, who is waiting for a heart and lung transplant, and who managed to snap herself with both of them.

"I thought William would say no, but he didn't. He wished me well," she told the Daily Mail afterward.

Another women in the crowd, student Chloe Skafte, 19, also got a selfie with Kate after giving her flowers, the Mail reported.

Earlier on the tour, during a walkabout in Christchurch, New Zealand, Kate was snapped in a young fan's selfie while high-fiving a youngster and laughing into the camera. The fan's picture spread on Twitter.

So far, we haven't seen any selfies taken by William and Kate themselves, although William's uncle, Prince Andrew, got a lot of attention earlier this month when he snapped his own selfie in a room at Buckingham Palace and then posted it on Twitter.

But the most coveted royal selfie of all? That would be one with baby Prince George. Still waiting.
