Robert Bianco, USA TODAY
  • Encore airs 12-hour 'Titanic' miniseries beginning tonight
  • '90210' and Gossip Girl' return on CW
  • 'Two Broke Girls' needs better supporting characters

Titanic: Blood and Steel
Encore, 8 ET/PT

Han (Matthew Moy) reacts after the diner is robbed on '2 Broke Girls,' tonight on CBS.

Away all boats! Convinced, apparently, that our fascination with all things Titanic is boundless, Encore has imported the 12-hour, Italian-produced miniseries Titanic: Blood and Steel and is giving it a six-night run, starting tonight. There are a few faces you'll recognize in small roles, including Chris Noth and Derek Jacobi, surrounded by many you won't, in a film that quite literally takes the story back to the drawing board, and then drowns it in soap, Irish conflicts and unsupported conjecture. Let's say it's only for those who must get on this ship.

90210
CW, 8 ET/PT

CW's teen soaps return tonight, starting with a 90210 episode that boasts a cameo by Call Me Maybe's Carly Rae Jepsen. Then it's on to the launch of the last season of Gossip Girl (9 ET/PT), as the gang searches for a missing Serena — and the show's missing buzz.

2 Broke Girls
CBS, 9 ET/PT

Just a few weeks in, and already it's clear that anyone hoping for improvements in Girls' male supporting cast may now give up hope. They continue to hit the same stale, discordant notes: Matthew Moy's Han is short and heavily accented; Jonathan Kite's repulsive Oleg is oversexed and smells; Garrett Morris' Earl is, well, who knows — Morris' delivery is so stilted, the character is lost in translation. Still, there is good news for your DVR: As long as Broke, Dancing With the Stars, The Voice, Gossip Girl and Mob Doctor are aligned against each other, this is one time slot where it can rest.
