Weekend TV: 'Mockingbird Lane,' 'The Walking Dead'

Robert Bianco, USA TODAY
David Morrissey makes his long-awaited debut as the Governor this weekend on AMC's 'The Walking Dead.'
  • A 'Munsters' reboot? That's the premise behind 'Mockingbird Lane'
  • The Governor finally takes office on 'The Walking Dead'
  • 'The Mentalist' hits its 100th episode

Mockingbird Lane
NBC, Friday, 8 ET/PT

NBC is billing this pilot for a Munsters reboot from Pushing Daisies' Bryan Fuller as a Halloween special, which is one way to look at it. The other is that this odd introduction for this proposed series, which stars Jerry O'Connell, Portia de Rossi and Eddie Izzard, is either a burn-off or a tryout — and considering the day and time, "burn-off" is most likely.

The Walking Dead
AMC, Sunday, 9 ET/PT

It's probably unnecessary to warn Walking Dead viewers to brace themselves, as by now anyone watching this violent fright-fest should be permanently braced. Still, tonight the show promises to take an even darker turn, as the series introduces one of the comic book's most infamous characters: The Governor, played here by David Morrissey. No one outside of the show knows whether the TV version of the character is going to travel the original's path, but just in case, yeah, brace yourself.

The Mentalist
CBS, Sunday, 10 ET/PT

Simon Baker and crew hit the 100th episode mark with a flashback to the day Patrick was first introduced to the CBI team. Sundays are so crowded this fall, it's unlikely most viewers have room on their "must watch" lists for this still enjoyable procedural, but that's OK. One of the benefits of having a show like The Mentalist in your rotation is that you can dip in when you want without feeling as if you have to make a weekly commitment.
