TV Sunday: 'The Sound of Music,' 'The Good Wife'

Robert Bianco, USA TODAY
  • 'The Sound of Music' provides a holiday spoonful of sugar
  • Another seasonal favorite: More football
  • A glorious repeat of 'The Good Wife'

The Sound of Music

ABC, Sunday, 7 ET/PT

ABC gives another holiday run to one of America's favorite movies, this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical starring Julie Andrews as Maria (a role about to be played in the NBC remake by Carrie Underwood). It's a bit sugary, but there are times when one is in the mood for sugar — and this time of year usually qualifies.

Sunday Night Football

NBC, Sunday, 8:20 ET/PT

Lest we forget, for many people, football and fall/winter holidays are inexorably linked. For them, ESPN offers a special season finale of Monday Night Football on Saturday (yes, I know — just go with it), followed on Sunday by NBC's next-to-last edition of Sunday Night Football. May your team win.

The Good Wife

CBS, Sunday, 9 ET/PT

Ah, what might have been. As you watch this repeat of the season opener of broadcast's best drama, ponder how much better a good fall run might have been had Kristin Chenoweth not been injured and been able to stay on the show, and if the casting folks had found someone a bit better suited to play Kalinda's husband Nick than Marc Warren. Or maybe if Nick had never existed at all. That's my version of It's a Wonderful Life.

Robert Bianco regrets that Kristin Chenoweth was not able to complete a planned 'Good Wife' guest arc and that Marc Warren was.

Emmy Award and Tony Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth guest stars on THE GOOD WIFE, matching wits with both Alicia and Peter in her role as a top-of-her-game political reporter who wants to know more about the Florrick campaign and marriage. The fourth season of THE GOOD WIFE premieres Sunday, Sept. 30 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Photo: John Paul Filo/CBS Ã?©2011 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved
